Horizon
My Process
My Process:
I was tasked to make a Sci-Fi spaced-themed movie poster. So I took some inspiration from Sci-Fi space films like Gravity and came up with this design. I dubbed the movie poster name Horizon because the event horizon in black holes that sucks everything up and nothing can escape, not even light itself when it gets in close enough proximity. I decided to incorporate 3d via the text and bend it around the black hole like how a black hole warps space around in, video via stars moving in the background, and gif via the black hole in the poster. This piece was designed as a poster GIF that can be played on digital poster boards around a city like near a bus stand or a movie theater. It can also be used on social media like in Instagram stories. It could also be printed and used as a classic movie poster.
File Properties
· I choose sRGB, because this will mostly use as digital content, and sRGB is recommended for the digital space.
· sRGB IEC61966-2.1 color profile.
· 5400 x 7200 resolution.
Content Used
1. Video
i. I used different blending techniques and image manipulation effects to achieve these unique styles in my videos.
ii. These effects brought my background to live with these moving stars to complement the moving black hole.
2. Gif
i. I used a gif of a black hole with material revolving around the black hole. This was perfect to have since the movie poster focuses on black holes.
ii. I used this gif in this project because it serves as a great attention-seeking element to captivate the attention of the audience and lead them down to the rest of the elements as they scan from the title to the black hole to the astronaut to the release time.
3. 3D
i. I used 3d on my movie text to make it pop and it helped with my space theme because it goes with the black hole bending space around it self concept.
ii. In order to achieve the look, I used the ROG font and added some layer effects to make it glow and pop against the black space background.
Creative Process and Challenges
I knew what direction I wanted to go for the movie poster. I just had a hard time figuring out what kind and how I was incorporate the techniques required. I had a hard time finding good-quality content to work with as everything looked pixelated or lackluster when I tried using them. Finding content took a good chunk of my time but after that, I knew how to set things up and got everything set up how I wanted. I touched up the colors on the images and messed around with the lighting, blending, composition of several other content before coming to this result. I had many problems with getting things working but figured out a solution as I troubleshooted.
